The US Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, employs about 1,350 employees at projects and offices throughout a 700,000-square-mile area of the Missouri River Basin, from Rulo, Neb., to Fort Peck, Mont. Who May Apply:

- Temporary duty for travel (TDY) will not exceed 5%.
Operates various dump trucks up to 45 tons and over to transport soil, rock and other materials. Performs daily preventive maintenance on the vehicles and floating plant equipment. Operates truck tractors to pull single axle trailers and multi-axle, semi-trailers such as flat bed trailers, front end loaders and bulldozer transporters, etc. Performs barge deck hand duties on rock hauling and equipment/work barges on the Missouri River. Performs welding tasks such as assisting in the necessary cleaning, scraping, filing, cutting, grinding of surfaces preparatory to welding. Operates electric or gasoline fork lift trucks to load and unload trucks, move material in and out of storage buildings, and place material in stacks and on pallets. Performs normal laborer tasks, cleaning, painting, picking up supplies, sand blasting, and loading supplies. Performs other miscellaneous construction duties as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Back to topScreen Out Element: Ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. This includes the ability to operate truck tractors and forklifts to connect truck-tractors and trailers using air hoses and hydraulic systems, manipulate levers in operating hydraulic systems, and secure and release loads to be hauled.. Failure to meet the screen-out element will result in an ineligible rating.
Job Elements:
Ability to perform the duties of the motor vehicle operator without more than normal supervision.
Skill in operating motor vehicles
Knowledge of acceptable work practices (i.e., keeping things neat, clean, and in order)
Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to mobile equipment operation
Ability to drive motor vehicles safely
Ability to operate safely (non-motor vehicles).
Physical Effort: Light to heavy physical effort is expended in reaching, bending, and moving hands, arms, and legs to manipulate levers and pedals and turn steering wheel of truck tractors and forklift trucks. Ability to climb in and out of cabs of truck tractors. Able to climb on and off barges to steep river banks. Required to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds. On occasion, incumbent will throw lines and ropes weighing over 20 pounds.
Working Conditions: Operator is subject to possible injury from vehicle accidents while driving over-the-road and operating forklift trucks. Work is performed in enclosed cabs in all types of weather. Also both outside in loading areas and inside unheated buildings when operating forklift trucks. Works often around water and flowing rivers at various stages including flood stages. Often works around poisonous weeds and wild animals.
