This job posting is reflective of theBusiness Intelligence Developer essential functions, qualifications, and physical requirements. The Business Intelligence Developer and Senior Business Intelligence Developer positions have variable essential functions, qualifications and physical requirements. Competency and skill set will determine level of placement within the posted job family.


The Business Intelligence Developer will provide information analytics and report development for business units; provide technical and functional assistance in identifying, evaluating and developing systems, solutions, procedures, reports and analysis tools that are cost effective and meet end-user requirements; monitor recurring processes and ensure data and output accuracy and timely distribution.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Monitors recurring processes and ensures output accuracy and timely distribution. Responsible for maintenance, documentation, and enhancements of recurring processes and procedures.
  • Performs analysis and design by translating business requirements and developing reporting solutions that yield relevant business information in a user-friendly format by collecting, analyzing and leveraging data.
  • Assists with investigating, reviewing and analyzing data from multiple internal and external sources and understands the source structures and business relevance of the data.
  • Support Business and I/S teams with testing and implementation of new Business Intelligence tools, codes, and patches, and assist business customers throughout the conversion. Act as liaison between I/S teams and business areas by trouble-shooting and translating technical problems related to business applications.
  • Supports business data experts on select data repositories and provides support for project implementations and modifications impacting data repositories.
  • Develops and maintains current knowledge of assigned business areas, Mutual of Omaha practices, the insurance industry, and the business and technical environment.
  • Assists with training to peers and customers within the functional business areas on Business Intelligence tools and processes. Assists business partners in understanding the reporting tools to allow them to better access the data independently.

Job Requirements

This position requires the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • 1-2 years of experience working with SQL (either writing SQL or maintaining/reviewing/enhancing)
  • Experienceresearching, analyzing and problem-solving using end-user tools such as Microsoft Access/VBA, Oracle EPM (Hyperion/Brio), Business Objects Enterprise, Crystal Reports, Grails/Groovy, Confluence, or JIRA
  • Ability to work with large data sets and interpret data
  • Ability to run and create queries
  • Strong analytical, communication and human relations skills
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 2 years experience working in position requiring end-user analysis
  • 2 years experience in coding or query development
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Intermediate knowledge of the following tools: SAS, SQL Server, SSIS/SSRS, or DB2/UDB
  • Knowledge of JIRA development, jQuery/JavaScript, or HTML/CSS
  • Knowledge of Finance, Customer Service, Marketing, Sales and IT objectives and strategy
  • Knowledge of project and process management and business systems requirements
Physical Requirements:
  • Keyboarding/writing/pinching (working primarily with the fingers) 1-33% of the work period
  • Handling (working primarily with the hands such as grasping, turning, sorting) 1-33% of the work period
  • Sitting >66% of the work period
  • Standing/walking 1-33% of the work period
  • Bending/stooping 1-33% of the work period
