Job Description

Manager of Tax & Compliance Services 

Primary Accountabilities: The primary role of the Manager of Tax and Compliance Services is to manage the tax projects and engagements of the firm, including the supervision of Associates, Senior Associates, Supervisors and Client Service Managers.

 

Secondary Accountabilities: Proactively works with firm management on the overall management and delivery of the firm’s tax services. This includes providing leadership and direction in this service area to all personnel and commitment to providing value-added tax services to our clients.

 

Essential or Core Responsibilities

−  Management of Tax and Compliance Services and Client Relationships

-  Proactively seek to develop, establish, monitor and manage services that exceed client expectations in accordance with the firm’s service standards

-  Manage engagements for effectiveness within IRC and Treasury Regulations

-  Manage engagements to maximize efficiency

-  Manage engagement and client risk

-  Utilize and develop firm personnel

-  Maintain effective ongoing communications with clients and firm personnel

-  Evaluate firm performance to identify areas for improvements

-  Coordinate and advise on representation of clients before the IRS during exams, correspondence with the IRS re: notices of additional taxes, penalties, and inquiry

-  Serve as client service and billing manager for assigned clients

-  Market Orizon services to potential clients

−  Management of Tax Engagements and Personnel

-  Manage the flow of tax projects and engagements through the office

-  Review of Individual, Corporate, Trust, Partnership, etc returns

-  Preparation of complex tax and information returns

-  Assure accurate tracking of due dates of tax projects and returns, ensure appropriate extensions are filed

-  Consult and advise accounting staff on tax issues, policies and procedures

-  Perform/direct tax research on issues for partners and staff

-  Perform/direct research for other Orizon team members (planning & investment)

-  Responsible for presentations and training of pertinent tax issues

-  Assist with coordination of tax and compliance service training for all accounting, planning and investment professionals

-  Assist with CPE scheduling for accounting staff with Firm President & Manager of Accounting and Assurance Services

−  Other responsibilities, functions

-  Develop forms and schedules to simplify and enhance the flow of tax work through the office

-  Analysis of tax planning, preparation, and research products and programs, testing, and advise on product decisions

-  Correspondence with tax program software companies re: program problems, ordering, etc

-  Analysis of new tax products and programs, testing, and advise on software decisions

-  Assist with employee evaluations

-  Assist HR Director with review and revision of employee evaluation process as needed

-  Assist HR Director with hiring process including interviews with potential tax staff

-  Any other administrative management function and tasks necessary to carry out responsibilities of this position

−  Effectiveness of relationship building with, and service to, clients and firm personnel

−  Proficiency and creativity in service to clients (tax planning, services)

−  The overall effectiveness, efficiency and profitability of the tax department

−  Proactive inter-office communication to keep all parties aware of information that is pertinent to tax issues and serving the clients with excellence and integrity

−  Knowledge of company services, philosophy and business model. Demonstration of commitment to firm and business protocol

−  Taking initiative to perform functions on an independent basis yet knowing when to seek assistance

−  Timely and efficient preparation and completion of assignments

−  Accuracy/completeness of all communication and assignments

−  Professionalism demonstrated in personal conduct, attire, communication and attitude

−  Personal integrity, leadership by example and commitment to Orizon Standards of Excellence

−  Development of personal business network and new client relationships

Job Requirements

Selection Criteria or Qualifications:

−  CPA License

−  7 + years experience in public accounting and thorough knowledge of Internal Revenue Code, US Treasury Regulations, IRS guidance, and reporting requirements

−  Proficiency in computer applications and able to gain proficiency in other software applications as needed

−  Proficiency in Tax Research

−  Proficiency in Tax planning methods and techniques

−  Proven supervisory and mentoring experience

−  Strong leadership skills

−  Strong analytical and problem solving abilities

−  Ability to work and interact with departments throughout the organization at all levels

−  Strong oral and written communication skills

−  Highly effective organizational and time management skills

−  Able to perform multiple tasks under deadline driven situations

−  Interpersonal and social skills necessary to develop new client relationships and enhance existing client relationships
