Job Description
MAJOR FUNCTION:
Completes the engineering design, analysis, specification, and integration of electronics and electrical portions of a new product. Works with others to determine the customers needs and requirements, conceives and implements designs to meet the identified customer needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Designs and develops electrical circuits and harnesses for commercial turf equipment.
Utilizes various control and communication strategies and technologies to ensure proper levels of machine capability and robustness for the application.
Creates designs which satisfies the product requirements as outlined in the product specification.
Develops methods to sense physical parameters and control via analog or digital controls.
Performs engineering analysis to predict the behavior of the proposed designs. Analysis tools may include closed form solutions or electronic simulation programs.
Develops product design plans including budgets and schedules. Executes to plan developed and assists in the control of the project.
Consults with other product design engineers, marketing, research engineers, mechanical designers and others on proposed product designs. May be responsible for the work direction of designers, drafters, contract/consulting personnel, and others.
Selects and works with vendors to create specifications, define agreements, finalize designs and implement and test hardware that meet the needs of the product application.
Assures that designs meet the requirements of the customer as defined by safety and any applicable industry or Toro standard.
Responsible for drawing package, bill of material, and product specification. Responsible for the building of prototypes.
Works with test engineers and technicians to develop tests which simulate the requirements of the customer. Evaluates test data and develops design revisions to solve problems.
Keeps abreast of new technological developments, components, concepts, materials, manufacturing processes, or the competitive environment which would affect the design or design process.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Travel to test sites, distributors, customers, vendors, manufacturing facilities, and others as required. Ability to work with others on teams to accomplish goals, including task and/or project leadership.
Job Requirements
Bachelor or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. Experience in applying digital electronics to mechanical systems for monitoring and control. Must be able to create and analyze component or complete product designs with individual initiative. Must be able to direct the work of drafters, designers and technicians. Has demonstrated a high level of productivity and competency in the execution of duties. Must be able to plan and execute all technical engineering activity for complete product development. Has demonstrated competency in creativity, productivity, and decision making, and problem resolution through successful completion of projects.
