This position is located in the Pharmacy Service.

The Pharmacy Procurement Technician must be a PTCB certified technician who functions utilizing independent technical judgement (without the need for readily available supervison) as well as with a comprehensive and thorough working knowledge of complex procurement principles and practices.

The procurement technicians duties include (but are not limited to):

• Operational responsibility for ongoing inventories of drug products and pharmaceutical supplies and their procurement
• Holds an Ordering Official Designation letter for the prime vendor contract
• Is a pharmacy purchase card holder
• May function as a pharmacy technician in the pharmacy to meet patient care needs

Work Schedule:  M - F 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; rotation and weekends

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 

• U.S. citizenship
• A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience
• Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

GS-7

Experience. One year experience at the next lower level and must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level.  In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterick(*):

*Ability to evaluate, analyze workflow, and coordinate work activities

Ability to independently gather, evaluate, and analyze data to generate reports and/or for other projects/statistical purposes

Knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures sufficient to train and orient new employees and other staff

Comprehensive knowledge of the operation and care of specialized pharmaceutical equipment

Comprehensive knowledge of the procurement and formulary process

Comprehensive knowledge of investigational drug policies and procedures

Comprehensive knowledge of controlled substance policies and procedures, and the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies in these policies and procedures

Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to, analyze data in VA information systems

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Pharmacy Technicians Functional Requirements: Heavy Lifting (45 lbs and over); Heavy Carrying (45 lbs and over); Straight Pulling (up to 1 hour); Pushing (1-2 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (up to 3 hours); Standing (up to 5 hours); Repeated bending (up to 1 hour); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; Hearing (aid permitted)
