Manages activities of the Health Information Management department related to the development, implementation and maintenance of health information in compliance with federal and state laws and generally accepted HIM best practices. Oversees activities related to transcription.

Supervises, coaches and evaluates subordinates in daily activities and long-range goals.

Effective problem solving skills with ability to deal with physicians, employees, and other hospital staff with tact and diplomacy
Knowledge of HIPAA and privacy regulations
Knowledge of healthcare laws, regulations and standards
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Computer knowledge of MS Office.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Degree in Health Information Technology;
Certification as an RHIA or RHIT; or
A minimum of 15 years of recent verifiable Health Information Management operations experience in a large acute care facility with at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity in lieu of formal education.
5 years of related Health Information Management operations experience with at least 3 years of progressive management experience.
